Using ESP32-WROOM-32D Rev1 just for BLutooth & Wifi

Hi- I want to use the module only for communicating from a host uCom via UART for wireless bluetooth or wifi connections.
Questions-
What pins beside pwr,gnd,Txd, & Rxd to i have to tie into my board?
Do I have to set up the 5 strapping pins in some configuration?
Do I have to download firmware to the module first?

I was hoping I could just talk to it with AT commands.

I know this information is somewhere, but there is so much information, sometimes it's hard to find simple things.
