ESP32 CAM accessing ouside local network

Postby pinguino_vikingo » Fri Nov 22, 2024 11:37 am

Hello!! Although I have experience working with Arduino and coding in general, I'm newie with ESP and I'm struggling with the network configuration.

I would like to configure a ESP32 cam web server but since my public IP is not static I think I have to use the services of DuckDN, NoIP...

I have selected DuckDN so I have created my account and got my token... Now I'm codding the web server. I'm working with an example (that I will add below) and I have added the easyDDNS repository (https://github.com/ayushsharma82/EasyDDNS) then I thought that I have everything ready but... How can I access to the webserver?? because when I was connected to same WIFI I just need to add the IP direction of my ESP but now I don't really know the IP because it's been managed by duckdns... (as I said I'm really bad with network stuff)

May you help me??

DuckDNS resolves your dynamic public IP into a fixed domain name (yourdomain.duckdns.org), but this only points to your router's public-facing IP, aka the Router itself, not the ESP32.

To reach your ESP32, you need to tell the router to forward incoming requests on a specific port (e.g., 8080) to the ESP32's local IP and port. - check Router Port Forwarding

Be careful though, as exposing devices to the internet via port forwarding makes them vulnerable to hacking.
ESP32 has minimal security, so exposing it directly is not recommended!
