Very long compile times for ESP32

Hello. I have recently started using esp-idf on platformio vscode extension. I have noticed very long compile times on my system. Everytime I change one line of code, the program seems to recompile the whole system which takes about 2 minutes. Can someone help me understand how to avoid this and how to fix this?
