will s3 be pin compatible with s2?
will s3 be pin compatible with s2?
I need s3, but can I design/proto with s2 and drop-in replace an s3 when available to get the additional mem/cpu?
Re: will s3 be pin compatible with s2?
Ive been wondering this as well, for the same reason...

Hi,
Thanks for being patient while someone got back to you. A preview datasheet with the ESP32-S3 pinout hasn't been released yet, so the pinout details are not public. I can confirm that although both are in a QFN56 package, the pinout is not the same. It will be similar but not a drop-in replacement or even a blue-wire-fix for an ESP32-S2 design that uses the bare chip.
Is using modules an option for your designs? Details about the ESP32-S3-MINI series should be announced, and these will be the same dimensions and pin count as ESP32-S2-MINI so it should be possible to reuse a design between those two (some pin functions may not be 100% the same, once the module datasheet is available then suggest checking the details.)
Sorry I can't be of more help at this stage.

Re: will s3 be pin compatible with s2?
A module is perfectly acceptable at least for me.
I will work with ESP32-S2-MINI on protos, and wait excitedly for S3-MINI. It will be with public stock this year?

Yes. Expect more details for this module will be released in the next 1-2 months, with details about general availability to follow.
If you have a particular project in mind, suggest contacting Espressif sales with the information and request early access to the datasheet and/or samples once they are available.
