Hi,
I notice CAN interface in ESP32 diagram, but don't find description of it in datasheet.

Hi,

We recommend you to use SPI interface of ESP32 to connect external chip with CAN controller and CAN driver integrated. Because current beta version ESP31 has no CAN controller internally and only ESP32 does have CAN controller.

BTW, besides SPI interface of ESP31/ESP32 can be used to connect spi flash, HSPI and VSPI are also available for customers to connect various peripherals.

More questions, please feel free to let us know.

Thanks.

Thanks Kelly.

That is disappointing, external CAN controller have limited throughput and are not ideal.

Some of your block diagrams show a CAN peripheral. Is this in error, planned for a future chip, or present, but not brought out to pins?

Thanks again,
David

hi david,
think there is a missunderstand, ..please read detailed..

only the beta version ESP31 has no CAN controller just in time...
and to your question: Is there CAN interface in ESP32?
there is the answere: Yes , like Kelly said.

hope this helps

best wishes

Thanks:
* ESP31 is prelim chip (beta) without CAN;
* ESP32 will be out by mid 2016, and will include CAN.

Great news, can't wait.

As per my knowledge you should use SPI interface of ESP32 to connect external chip with CAN controller and CAN driver integrated. Because current beta version ESP31 has no CAN controller internally and only ESP32 does have CAN controller.

Now this has been released, can we have some details on the CAN? Which pins are used to connect to the external transciever? Presumably just CANTX and CANRX? Any documentation on the software for this (or pointers to CPU documentation)?

Hi, I still can not find any details regarding CAN 2.0 in the ESP32 Datasheet. Is there any information available about the CAN 2.0 interface for the ESP32?

No, sorry. I'm trying to speed up the documentation somewhat, but the teams here are somewhat overloaded... I'll see if I can poke the relevant people again.
