Bootloops and Other Things

I wrote to Customer Service and they responded that i should post at Adafruit. So i went there and the first post i saw similar to my issue, the fellow was advised he should probably post to espressif directly. I hope this is appropriate. I'm just gonna post my email as i sent it to support.

Hello,

I purchased a ESP32-S3-BOX-3 (order#: 3189583-7822121818) and received it approximately 12/18/2023 and i have had nothing but trouble with it. Unfortunately i can't easily specify the troubles because i got frustrated and put it aside, but i will try to recall broadly:

  • The device would not reconcile with the apps or online tools because "Invalid Chip ID". This was with me simply following instructions as given, i.e. scanning QR codes and downloading app and so forth. I had made no alterations yet at that time.
  • I flashed it at website (espressif.github.io/esp-launchpad/) and it went into a bootloop.
  • Then i flashed it again and it refused to boot at all.
That's when i got frustrated and didn't touch it for a month. So i got it back out last night and tried flashing it once more at website and it was successful but went into a bootloop. This time however, the bootloop resolved when i unplugged the USB cable. The device worked fine for several hours, but when i woke in the morning it was bootlooping again.

I was very eager to get to working with this device but i can't even begin when i don't have baseline stability. Please help me sort this? I have some experience coding in Arduino and with other firmwares like Tasmota, and i can follow instructions. I have esptool installed on my PC. I just need direction to get started.
