ESP32 pinging over Ethernet but otherwise not operational

Hi all,
I'm experiencing a very weird issue at the moment. I have multiple devices on the field connected to a TCP/IP network using Ethernet (we're using the LAN8720 chip). After a while, some devices stop communicating over TCP/IP (can't open a TCP/IP connection to the TCP Servers set up on them), but I can still ping them. This appears to happen randomly to various devices.
I've setup the task watchdogs and the RTC watchdog timer with a full system reset, but this doesn't seem to have solved the issue. Now, it appears that the on-site technicians had first connected the devices to a Passive-POE enabled switch (our devices do not support POE), but then disabled POE on the switch. Do you believe that this could be causing the issue?
