Clarification on IDF releases

I would like some clarification on the IDF releases. After installing VSC, and the espressif extension you are given an option of what IDF version you want to install.
What is the difference in choosing v5.4 (release version) or release/v5.4 (release branch) ?

- v5.4 (release version): This refers to a stable, final release of ESP-IDF version 5.4. It has undergone complete testing and is considered production-ready.

- release/v5.4 (release branch): This refers to the development branch for version 5.4.

The release branch (release/v5.4) would contain the latest bug fixes and improvements for the 5.4 version, but it may not be as thoroughly tested as the final release version. It's suitable for users who want the latest fixes but don't need the stability of a final release.
