We're near the 'engineering samples' stage now. We're not ready to sell the chip to the masses yet, but we should get there soon-ish. Sorry, I don't have particular timeframes for this, it kinda depends what issues we run into during bring-up.

Could you please share some info on what level of support for MIPI-DSI displays can be expected once ESP32-P4 is launched? Which displays will be supported?ESP_Sprite wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 1:31 amWe're near the 'engineering samples' stage now. Sorry, I can't. We have a MIPI-DSI peripheral so in theory we support any display which confirms to that spec (within the confines of the capabilities of the hardware), but actual support for a display also involves knowing initialization routines and having the correct drivers and all that other stuff, and we're simply not there in the process yet. Good thing is that that's all software and can be addressed later as well.

In my opinion, the best approach would be if Espressif could recommend few tested displays in the MIPI-DSI peripheral documentation including code samples.ESP_Sprite wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 11:45 pmSorry, I can't. Here is a tip for a display originally intended for RPi but it could work nicely with ESP32-P4 as well. It has great form factor ready to be built-in a panel with a cut-out.

However, for proper initialization routine, Espressif would probably need to approach Waveshare and ask for detailed information.
Waveshare displays are generally accessible globally through various sellers. We recently used their 7" 800x480 16-bit parallel with ESP32-S3. This is probably top limit of S3 capabilities. MIPI-DSI of ESP32-P4 will offer an order of magnitude faster display interface.
