switch from Station to Accesspoint, if can't connect to router

Postby Dansen » Mon Nov 08, 2021 3:44 pm

Hello guys!

I'm using my ESP32-S2-WROVER-I and I try to implement both station and accesspoint mode. Default should be stationmode and after a certain amount of connection attempts with default SSID and password I want my stationmode to turn off and turn on accesspointmode. In accesspointmode i want to provide a html page in which you can determine SSID and password

Image

after defining SSID and password it suppose to switch back to stationmode and repeat my procedure if SSID and password still do not match any nearby routers.

Now I'm not sure how I can implement this procedure. I'm using the https "simple" example as a template. my init function for my station mode looks like this:

Code: Select all

void init_Wifi(void)
{
    static httpd_handle_t server = NULL;

    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(nvs_flash_init());
    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(esp_netif_init());
    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(esp_event_loop_create_default());

    /* Register event handlers to start server when Wi-Fi or Ethernet is connected,
     * and stop server when disconnection happens.
     */

#ifdef CONFIG_EXAMPLE_CONNECT_WIFI
    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(esp_event_handler_register(IP_EVENT, IP_EVENT_STA_GOT_IP, &connect_handler, &server));
    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(esp_event_handler_register(WIFI_EVENT, WIFI_EVENT_STA_DISCONNECTED, &disconnect_handler, &server));
#endif // CONFIG_EXAMPLE_CONNECT_WIFI
#ifdef CONFIG_EXAMPLE_CONNECT_ETHERNET
    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(esp_event_handler_register(IP_EVENT, IP_EVENT_ETH_GOT_IP, &connect_handler, &server));
    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(esp_event_handler_register(ETH_EVENT, ETHERNET_EVENT_DISCONNECTED, &disconnect_handler, &server));
#endif // CONFIG_EXAMPLE_CONNECT_ETHERNET

    /* This helper function configures Wi-Fi or Ethernet, as selected in menuconfig.
     * Read "Establishing Wi-Fi or Ethernet Connection" section in
     * examples/protocols/README.md for more information about this function.
     */
    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(example_connect());
}
I tried to analyze how the example is establishing router connection and after some research i encoutered the connect.c file in which the whole connection-managemend was implemented.

connect.c content:

Code: Select all

    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(s_phy->del(s_phy));
    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(s_mac->del(s_mac));

    esp_netif_destroy(eth_netif);
    s_example_esp_netif = NULL;
}

#endif // CONFIG_EXAMPLE_CONNECT_ETHERNET

esp_netif_t *get_example_netif(void)
{
    return s_example_esp_netif;
}

esp_netif_t *get_example_netif_from_desc(const char *desc)
{
    esp_netif_t *netif = NULL;
    char *expected_desc;
    asprintf(&expected_desc, "%s: %s", TAG, desc);
    while ((netif = esp_netif_next(netif)) != NULL) {
        if (strcmp(esp_netif_get_desc(netif), expected_desc) == 0) {
            free(expected_desc);
            return netif;
        }
    }
    free(expected_desc);
    return netif;
}
My approach was to add a variable which counts the connection attemps in this function

Code: Select all

static void on_wifi_disconnect(void *arg, esp_event_base_t event_base,
                               int32_t event_id, void *event_data)
{
    ESP_LOGI(TAG, "Wi-Fi disconnected, trying to reconnect...");
    connectingcounter +=1;
    if(connectingcounter == 10)		// I added this part
    {							//
        return;					//
    }							//
    esp_err_t err = esp_wifi_connect();
    if (err == ESP_ERR_WIFI_NOT_STARTED) {
        return;
    }
    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(err);
}
after 10 attempts my accesspoint suppose to start. so i thought of adding my init_acces_point function.

Code: Select all

void init_access_point(void)
{
        static httpd_handle_t serverap = NULL;
    //Initialize NVS
    esp_err_t ret = nvs_flash_init();
    if (ret == ESP_ERR_NVS_NO_FREE_PAGES || ret == ESP_ERR_NVS_NEW_VERSION_FOUND)
    {
        ESP_ERROR_CHECK(nvs_flash_erase());
        ret = nvs_flash_init();
    }
    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(ret);

    ESP_LOGI(APTAG, "ESP_WIFI_MODE_AP");
    wifi_init_softap();

    ESP_ERROR_CHECK(esp_event_handler_register(IP_EVENT, IP_EVENT_AP_STAIPASSIGNED, &connect_aphandler, &serverap));
  //  ESP_ERROR_CHECK(esp_event_handler_register(WIFI_EVENT, WIFI_EVENT_STA_DISCONNECTED, &disconnect_handler, &serverap));
}
which is included in my main.c file

Now 2 Questions arose.

1: How can i include my main.c file within the connect.c file ?
#include"main.c" didn't work.
2: Is this approach even a good approach? im not really sure. It feels like a provisionally solution for my problem. Does someone else got a more efficient approach ?

thanks in advance!
