Windows10, VSCode, Release 4.2 of the ESP-IDF
I have reinstalled Espressif extension and followed the onboarding (This is much improved from last time I did it.)
I have made sure the Environment variables are correct.
I installed PowerShell 7.1.0
Only path variable that is present in WindowsEnvironmentVariables - > Path is:
C:\Users\Adrian\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python39
The remainder are set automatically by onboarding, in the F1-> Preferences: OpenSettings (JSON)
When I build from the espressif extension icons - works 100%
When I flash from the espressif extension icons - works 100%
When I ESP-IDF Launch GUI configuration Tool (MenuConfig) - works 100%
In fact everything works as expected, except monitoring as it fails all the time, also when F1 -> ESP-IDF: Monitor your device
Below is my screenshot of my settings.json, and the Terminal output after trying to monitor
I hope you can help me to get it to work once again.

Re: Monitor not working after Updating Espressif Extension to 0.6.0
I'm having the same problem after v0.6.0 was installed. I did notice in my terminal if I typed path, it would show all my paths that are defined. Click the terminal button and get the same results you did. When I typed the path command again, I would get PATH=(null). I am able to run the idf.py -p COM8 monitor command in a command processor and it works. I'm currently using a terminal program to work around this but, it sure seems like this is a problem with v0.6.0 install.
