External antenna

Postby rahmaevao » Thu Oct 25, 2018 8:40 am

I bought an antenna 2042811100 MOLEX. https://www.molex.com/molex/products/da ... TENNAS.xml

But it does not stick into the slot on module ESP32-WROOM-32U.

This antenna has a MHF4 connector and ESP32 modules have IPEX connectors.
What is the difference between u.fl. / IPEX / MHF4?
QUESTION
What is the difference between u.fl. / IPEX / MHF4?

SOLUTION
u.fl and IPEX are all different names for the same contact. So you can use these names interchangeably.

MHF4 is the smaller contact used with m.2/NGFF modules.

Technically MHF4 is part of the same family as "IPEX" which is really MHF or MHF1 made by I-PEX

But in the specification for the antenna indicated that it is a ufl connector.
Where is the truth?

You need a wifi antenna, 2.4GHz, with U.FL (IPEX) connector.
The antenna you've bought is designed for Arduino MKR1200 and it is a Sigfox antenna for 868MHz.
It may work, but not good.

Choosing the wifi antenna depends on the intended usage.
If you just need to connect to the wifi router in your home, any wifi antenna will probably work good.

If you have trouble choosing the antenna, I would recommend next time you buy the ESP32 module with the PCB antenna.
