thanks Konstantin, It must have been a corruption of the bootlodader but I can not check this as I have done more work on that unit now. However, I still have an issue when trying to enable SB2 without encryption Using idf4.2 and my real project. the first boot worked fine and it booted the app norm...

Just a quick update. If I enable Flash encryption, it works. Is it a requirement to enable SB2 & Flash encryption at the same time?
